The Chevrolet Motor Company was founded in November 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, William Little and Edwin Cambell.
In May 1918 General Motors buys operating assets of Chevrolet.
In 1953 Chevrolet launch the world's first production plastic bodied 2-seater sports car "The Corvette" and the Bel Air is born as their premium range, which is advertised as "Entirely New Through and Through!" but actually the frame and mechanics is taken from earlier models. Bel Airs featured wide chrome strip with the centre painted in co-ordinating colour of the outside bodywork with full wheel covers and optional power steering. The interior had massive chrome along the bottom of the dash and a delux steering wheel with a large chrome horn ring and carpets.
1954 stayed the same with a revised grille and tail lights. Had optional power brakes, power steering, power postion front seat and power front windows. Fitted with a 6-cylinder overhead valve engine which had 115hp with manual transmission and 125hp with automatic transmission.
1955 gained the V8 overhead valve engine of 265 cubic inches which produced 162hp with a double carb set up and 180hp 4 barrell carb set up. A '55 fullsize model new styling earned the nick name "HOT ONE!" It came with Chrome headliner bands, front bumper spears, window mouldings and gold Bel Air scripts.
At some point in that year our 4-door sedan rolled off the production line of the Chevrolet Motor Company factory in Kansas. We do not have anymore history state side of our Chevy but we do know it was 1st registered in the UK in 1988 and was cream and gold. Between 1955 and now the car has had the gearbox and engine replaced from a 3-speed manual to 3-speed automatic, the original 265 cubic inch V8 to a 350 Cubic inch V8. The car has been customised with stainless steel exhausts, 17" American Racing wheels and lowered approximately 3 inches. Since purchasing her in April 2008 we have carried out upgrades and repairs, including a total refurbishment of the interior in stunning red and white so that the car is looking as good as the day she left the showroom.
Lots of glass allows you to be amazed with the reaction of the envious crowds outside. The Chevy not only brings you to your destination in real retro style but in great fun!
